Niagara ( Eng. Niagara River ) a river in North America connecting with each other lakes Erie and Ontario and separates the US state of New York from Canadian province of Ontario. The length is about 56 km the pool area is 665 thousand km2. The average water discharge is 5900 m3/s. The average water discharge is 5.9 thousand m3/s flow fluctuations from 2.8 thousand m3/s to 7.7 thousand m3/s.

The river flows from Lake Erie in the area between Buffalo and Fort Erie flowing mainly to the north. In the upper reaches it divides into two branches forming the islands of Grand Island and N'vi Island. In the middle reaches are the Niagara Falls and rapids bypassed by the Welland Canal. According to available data, over the past 12 thousand years the waterfall and rapids area has moved upstream of Niagara by 11 km but recently this process has slowed down: the diversion of water for the needs of power stations has reduced the devastating effect. The river flows into Lake Ontario in the Canadian city of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
