What is the Mishnah?

Mishnah ("study by repetition") is the first major written redaction of the Jewish oral traditions of the Pharisees, known as the "Oral Torah". It is also the first major work of Rabbinic literature. Further Rabbinic commentaries on the Mishnah eventually resulted in the extensive compilations known as the Talmud. These works formed the basis for modern-day Rabbinic Judaism, which includes Orthodox and Conservative Jews.
