Are you leading a reading course?

Are you a course leader in a reading course at a vhs or another educational institution? Then you can put the app to good use!

As an extension of the existing basic education and literacy offerings in the vhs learning portal, the DVV is developing a digital learning offering in the form of an app that can be used to increase the reading skills of adult learners in the written language of German. The focus is on reading fluency.

This app is aimed at adults with low literacy, i.e. learners at all alpha levels who recognize letters well and can read individual short and common words or syllables. The active oral vocabulary in German is ideally at A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR).

With the help of specially developed speech recognition and an AI application for reading analysis and content assignment, learners can be guided through the learning content according to their individual reading skills. The app analyzes progress in reading accuracy and reading fluency at nine levels – from syllable reading to text reading. The artificial intelligence then guides the learners precisely through the lessons.

The German Adult Education Association e. V. (DVV) has developed framework curricula for adult literacy and basic education in recent years. The corresponding model for learning to read includes, among other things, the concept of the reading tandem. A person who reads well and a person who is learning to read read together. In self-learning contexts, the new vhs reading trainer can take on the task of the tandem partner who reads well.
