600 Years of Realistic Art

This app is a reference of artists who lived in the past six centuries. Artist’s names, birth and death dates are placed within a bar (the length of the bar indicates the artist’s lifespan) along a timeline. This timeline provides an overview of the artist’s lives in relation to their contemporaries.

Tapping on an artist’s name reveals samples of the his/her work, along with brief comments.

My search for 20th century artists whose skills are comparable to those of the previous centuries (and fit into the category of realist painters), led to the Art Renewal Center (ARC) website with its listings of Living Masters. Those that I’ve included in this chronology are at the forefront of the current revival of

realistic art.

Since the focus of this app is on realistic art, the timeline does not include some major artists such as Cezanne, Matisse or Picasso, whose styles would not fit into this category.
